Dr. Dolores Cormier-Zenon is a National Board Certified Teacher with over 30 years in education. From 2020 to 2021 she served as President of ASCD (Association of Supervision and Curriculum Development) and Chairman of the Board of Directors. Dr. Zenon is a founding member/vice-chair of the National Board Network of Accomplished Minority Educators (NAME). Additionally, she serves as President of the Louisiana National Board Certified Teacher Network while supporting underprivileged students to achieve post-secondary academic success.
In 2004, Cormier-Zenon was recognized by the Louisiana Department of Education as a Distinguished Educator. Her role impacted change in challenging schools and districts, elevating their commitment to meeting students' social-emotional and academic needs. Her platform continues to promote a focus on diverse topics that influence equity, advocacy and policy, teacher leadership, professional practice, family engagement, and high-quality instruction that impacts the whole child.
Cormier-Zenon attended Dillard University, Northwestern State University, and the University of Louisiana at Lafayette throughout her educational pursuits. In 2012, she earned her doctorate degree in Educational Leadership at the University of Louisiana at Lafayette. Cormier-Zenon is a former adjunct professor at Northwestern State University and the University of Louisiana at Lafayette. As a classroom teacher, administrator, curriculum specialist, and presenter she continues to be an avid innovative educator committed to the success of all children and those who educate them.
In response to COVID, she founded the WISE OWL SCHOLAR ACADEMY to challenge and support students in a safe and healthy environment. Dr. Zenon provides students with personalized academics to address the overwhelming limited access for the disadvantaged. She then founded the "Wisdom Inspired Scholar Education Foundation" in 2021, (aka W.I.S.E. Foundation) to provide scholarships to advanced teachers, students, STEAM, and academic intervention for students. Each year the W.I.S.E. Foundation hosts, "Believe in the Magic of the Season" Christmas celebration for children and families to promote literacy and provide access to resources in the community.
In June 2021, Dr. Cormier-Zenon accepted an appointment to serve with the National Consensus on School Health Education Group with 5 National Organizations. She was appointed to serve on the Reading Reimagined Educator Advisory Council in February 2022. In 2024, Dr. Zenon served on the Ghana ASCD first annual International Educator Summit Planning committee and presenter. As a result, a global connection in dialogue about education was established.
Dr. Cormier-Zenon is active in her community serving as an advocate to students in local schools in her district in partnership with foundations such as The Schumacher Foundation, The Pugh Women of Wisdom(WOW), Love our Schools, and Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority, Inc. ® Eta Chi Omega Chapter. As a result of her dedication to making an impactful difference she became a candidate for the Board of Elementary and Secondary Education to be a an authentic voice for education.
Conscientious about the future of education Dr. Zenon published "A Call to Re-Invest" at nbpts.org and "ASCD Board President Reflects on Leadership during Covid. She espouses the belief that “Every child, every zip code, no matter their circumstance.”
As an active member of Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority, Incorporated®, Eta Chi Omega Chapter, Dr. Dolores Cormier-Zenon served as the Founders' Day Chairperson, College Application Process (#CAP) Chairperson, Advocating for Social Justice/Connections Chairperson, Strategic Planning Chairperson and appointed to the Graduate Advisor Council, bringing her wealth of knowledge, leadership, and experience to the program of students remaining committed and passionate in exemplifying excellence in all she partakes.
Dr. Cormier-Zenon, was awarded the Jewel M. Thomas Visionary Leadership distinction, in recognition of her community work. She continues to serve in advocacy, connections, and strategic planning positions to support her community in realizing their greatest potential and valued worth.
